Applique Art
Applique is needlework in which pieces of fabric will cut in different shape and design or pattern and that piece or pattern are sew or patch on a piece of fabric to make a different or beautiful quilt bedspread cushion cover or anything. Applique is an important art in Benin in South Africa. It is a traditional art in Benin since 18th century. Applique work is mostly use in making of quilts. When applique quilt bedspread or cushion cover is made when they stitch the piece of fabric on another fabric firstly they fold the edges and after that they attach it to the other fabric.
When the artisans make the appliqu?? design they put so much effort to make this appliqu?? quilt or cushion cover as it shows its creativity and ideas which they frame on the fabric. It looks classy and attractive or eye catching when we see it.
Type of Applique art is:-
There is three main method or type of appliqu?? art.
- Machine Applique:
There are two methods for completing appliqu?? using machine are traditional method and pre cut shape method are used.
In traditional method it is also known as track down and trim, in this when stitching a placement line, place the piece of fabric larger than the line over the stitches and then completing a second row of stitches to attach the fabric to base material. When stitching is completed the excess fabric is trimmed to reveal decorative appliqu?? shape.
In pre-cut shapes, generally the stitching is done is zigzag stitch around the edges of the design. In tight satin stitch and re-trace the edges of the design to cover the zigzag the position of the edge of the shape beneath the needle so that half of the stitch falls on the fabric background and the other half falls on the appliqu?? shape.
